Why We Named Our Blog “The Family Table”

When we started our Peaceful Valley Furniture Blog, we were thrilled to share with you what our life looks like the behind-the-scenes in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

After much brainstorming and room-pacing, we’ve finally found our ideal blog name: The Family Table.

We feel this name perfectly captures the simple, everyday life we live here among the cornfields and Amish buggies.

The Family Table is reminiscent of childhood days spent around the supper table with your siblings and parents. Or board games played without a care as to who wins — we’re just happy to be together, having fun.

It sounds like the memories of Christmas carols sang around the tree. It smells like the sweet scent of your grandma’s apple crisp and feels like the strong arms of your father’s hug.

Like the feeling of coming home after a long day of work, knowing you belong.

Welcome to the Family Table

We wanted to incorporate “family” into our blog name because we, here at Peaceful Valley Furniture, and the Amish Community at large, value family.

Often times, our modern culture diminishes strong family values and instead embraces independence and individuality. While there is nothing wrong with either of those, we also see the unique importance of living in a community, learning and growing together.

We want to show you why we place so much of significance on family, both the ones we are born into and the ones we have chosen to become a part of.

No, we’re not your blood family. But we would love for you to be a part of our chosen family — one
characterized by both good and bad days and all the seasons of life.

Though we may never meet face-to-face, we are happy to share with you the simple, little moments that make life here in Lancaster County so special.

Maybe the strong family ties that Amish have to their family members fascinates you, creating a pause in your busy life as you wonder what truly makes a good family. Or perhaps the Amish family reminds you of your own, one you both love and cherish.

Either way, we welcome you to our family table — to laugh, to cry, to remember, to learn — and at dinner time, we hope you know you belong here, with us.
