Welcome to Spring 2016, a brand new season full of fresh starts, new life, and plenty of healthy, original recipes to try.
We wanted to join the health-club, recipe-fun and give you this easy recipe featuring these healthy yet yummy Banana Shakers.
Inspired by Lancaster County’s immense love for all things homemade and homegrown, this recipe tastes exactly how the new season feels: fresh and new.
Banana Shakers
by Virginia Good
- 1 C. unsweetened pineapple juice
- 1 C. skim milk
- 1 C. vanilla ice cream (or yogurt)
- 2 lg. ripe bananas, peeled and frozen
- 2 tsp. vanilla
Step 1: Peel and freeze banana.
Tip: Plan ahead to ensure your bananas are frozen solid to give your smoothie that perfect texture and taste!
Step 2: Combine all ingredients in blender.
In an effort to keep our smoothie healthy — yet still delicious — we used some calcium-packed, non-fat vanilla yogurt instead of the suggested vanilla ice cream.
Go Local: We suggest buying your delicious fruit and nutritious dairy products locally.
One of our favorite Lancaster places is Kauffman’s Fruit Farm and Market, a nearby sanctuary for local-food-lovers and health-nuts alike.
Step 3: Blend until Smooth
This healthy shake works well a busy schedule and multi-tasking. Simply add the ingredients, blend, and go!
Step 4: Pour into four cups and share with your friends. Or enjoy this yummy shake all to yourself.
It’s a simple smoothie to curb your hunger pangs — an ideal snack!
Enjoy this smoothie — and this new season — the Lancaster-county way: surrounded by friends, relishing the moment, and looking forward to your future.
